I'm kinda of nerdy, still when you meet me you'll see a very extroverted person who tries very hard to get pop culture references right ...
That's just because I read and researched so much about being charming and extroverted that my extroversion just proves what a great nerd I am.
I am not religious, and have a very scientific, logical, and reason sort of temperament, maybe too much at times. I don't really like the word "atheist", because it's not really a thing and just a trick used by people to avoid a debate. But for the lack of a better word, I am one yes.
I am definitely spiritual but not in the "I'm a Cancerian" kinda nonsense way but in the "if milk-way is the size of the US then earth fits between the ridges of your fingerprints" kinda way.
I moved to Vancouver in Aug of 2023 for a diploma program in cybersecurity. However, I would like to live and work in different places throughout life, if I... more get those chances of moving, except India, HAHA.
I work as an information security consultant and was based in Dubai from 2017-2023 but the humanities have always been calling ..I'm very drawn to subjects like art, culture, philosophy, history, psychology. I hope for both our sake you at least would like to talk about some of this!
Here I must also mention I am not open to kids, or adoption, just not up for parenthood, as I believe the world is not the greatest place right now, and at the same time there's so much more to do. Let's circle back to this on our 200th anniversary, promise!
If it's not clear yet then politically I'm on the liberal left-wing socialist/communist side, and if you are of the right-wing/conservative type then this probably wouldn't work.
I like to read, some books that come to mind are: Sophie's world, civilized to death, the three books by Yuval Noah Harari were amazing. Other authors come to mind are Alain de Botton (course of love, the school of life, the news), Sam Harris( end of faith, waking up book, also has an awesome meditation app - waking up), Will Durant, Dostoevsky. I read all of Ayn Rand's work too but now I'm over my libertarian/hyper-individualism phase.
I ought to start getting into fiction more, something like Catcher in the Rye(love me some good ranting!) would be a lot of fun to read, but always find myself gravitating to more non-fiction books.
Some of my other life philosophies are minimalism, and even digital minimalism - I don't like the idea of clutter, and I'm very sick of this instagram culture. I believe in having "good enough" clothes, cars, house, and so on.
Competing with others or keeping up with social media is not a concern. Constantly posting every min of your life on IG is weird to me, in fact, I believe people who are doing that must be feeling terribly lonely and anxious on the inside.
I like podcasts as well, the most gripping one has been Hardcore History by Dan Carlin, then Making sense, huberman lab, tangentially speaking, nosleep podcast, and one called behind the bas** is a good one too. Some movies and tv shows at the top of my mind that I have enjoyed a lot would be - fight club, the matrix, les misrables, shawshank redemption, the man from Earth, breaking bad, black mirror, GOT, rick and morty, and many many many more.
Might as well throw in some music ( I mean you wouldn't wanna spend the next 40 years with someone who doesn't like some of your music now, would you?! ) - coldplay, oasis, aerosmith, bon jovi, michael jackson, metallica, guns and roses, weeknd, old hindi stuff, maroon 5, iron maiden.
The reason to mention all these books, and stuff is not to name-drop and get highfalutin or pretentious lol, but to encourage conversation if we happen to have any commonalities here, and to give you an idea of what sort of personality would like such works and so on..
Weight lifting and swimming, both are very dear to me, always trying to hack my health etc. I try to follow the principles of a keto diet, it's not perfect, however, I am not giving up. Hoping to get into a lot hiking and camping once in Canada.
We should get to travel now, I think I would prefer road trips to flights or maybe even vanlife for a few months someday. International travel doesn't excite me as much as the idea of a road trip across North America. However, shoot me if I ever call myself a "wander".
If you still reading so far and probably wondering that this only talks about likes, dislikes, and nothing about personality - so I hear ya, so let me drone on some more.
If I have to choose words to describe myself like they do in interviews sometimes - then i'd go with empathetic, kind, curious. I know we all think we have all these great qualities, but well I can't really prove anything here until we talk, so that's that. To expand on this - I believe this makes me a good listener, but sometimes, (and now we getting into some aspects of my personality which probably need work) I tend to get caught up into the "giving advice" loop - years of working in IT I think does that to people. You start looking at everything as an algorithm and feel that swapping out one step for another should easily solve the problem, and things like emotions, inclination, and so on get ignored.
However, I am aware of this and I think that I am making progress with it too.
A bit on day to day might also help here - it's mostly work, college, gym, on the weekdays. At night before bed, I do some reading, or listen to podcasts. Weekends, I do enjoy some solid clubbing, some drinks, some dancing, but here in Vancouver now, there's hiking/ camping to add on to that. I haven't done much yet, I don't want to be on the news for being eaten by a bear because I decided to go do some solo wandering around, so this is something I'm slowly getting into by joining online groups and so on.
So to summarize, I am looking for someone who is also somewhere in the middle of the nerdy extrovert spectrum.
